Anthem is a master-planned community that is located partially within the city of Phoenix and partially within a census-designated place in the state of Arizona. The entire town is located wholly inside the boundaries of Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, and is a part of Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Anthem has a population of 21,700 people as of the 2010 Census. In 2014, the number of persons was estimated to be around 30,000.

New River, Arizona is the setting for this Del Webb master planned community, which encompasses a big gorgeous tract of land snuggled next to the river. Anthem was recently awarded one of Parenting magazine’s “Best Places to Raise a Family,” which is an honor. Several architectural styles of new construction homes and modern condominiums are offered in this suburban setting, which also boasts abundance of green space for residents. Water park and recreation center are available to Anthem residents, as are various cycling and walking routes in the surrounding area.

Known for its year-round activities, which are mostly aimed towards families, Anthem is a popular destination. Youth soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis, several forms of martial arts, and swimming are just a few of the activities available at the community center, which welcomes children as young as two years old. Homeowner’s association dues cover a pool larger than Olympic size, a community water park with slides and various depths for all swimming levels, paths that crisscross the town, bike paths that circle all major streets, and pocket parks scattered throughout the town. The community park, which is 63 acres, contains an amphitheater, numerous grassy spaces, volleyball and soccer fields as well as football and baseball fields and little league fields, in addition to a train, pavilion, lakes, and pagodas.

An intense thunderstorm dumped 5.01 inches of rain on Anthem in 90 minutes on July 31, 2012, producing severe flooding that damaged homes and necessitated the evacuation of nine persons. A subsequent inquiry of the flood determined that the storm was a “rain catastrophe on the order of one in every 1,000 years.” Located at the base of Daisy Mountain and Gavilan Peak, Anthem is comprised of 5,856 acres. The elevation of the community ranges from 1,760 feet to 2,428 feet above sea level, with an average elevation of 1,863 feet. Approximately 36% of the town has been set aside as open space, which includes 291 acres of open hillside habitat.
